Information
School District
Indiana Area School District is located in the county seat of Indiana
County and encompases 82 square miles. The district serves nearly 2,700
students living in Indiana and Shelocta Boroughs and from surrounding
White
and Armstrong Townships. The school district has provided quality,
student
centered education for over 170 years. The district also enjoys many
educational
partnerships, including those with Indiana County Technology Center,
Armstrong-Indiana
Intermediate unit, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
The district's elementary facilities consist of four
K-5 elementary
schools. Students who reside in Armstrong Township attend Ben Franklin
Elementary School located at the corner of Route 422 and Ben Franklin
Road
in White Township. At the secondary level, there is one grade 6-8
junior
high school and one grade 9-12 senior high school. Both secondary
schools
are located on North 5th Street in the Borough of Indiana.

Police Protection
Police protection in Armstrong Township is provided by the Pennsylvania
State Police. Their barracks are located at 4221 Rt 286 West, Indiana,
PA in White Township. The troopers are on call twenty-four hours a day,
seven days a week, to respond to police emergencies. Their

Donald Harris, Jr. Park
(Armstrong Township Park)
In November of 1978, Armstrong Township purchased 29.6
acres of land
at the intersection of Parkwood and Hickory Roads. Today this is the
site
of the Donald Harris, Jr. Park, the Armstrong Township Maintenance
facility, and the Armstrong Township Office.
The Park offers ballfields, picnic pavilions, children's playground
equipment
and rest facilities. The township is always looking toward the future
and
expansion projects.
Citizens' Ambulance Service Elderton
Station
The station is staffed 24 hours a day 365 days a year by a paramedic
and EMT crew. Located just off Route 422, the station provides
emergency
response to residents in Armstrong and Washington Townships in Indiana
County as well as Elderton Borough, Cowanshannock, Plumcreek and
Soutbend
Townships in Armstrong County. The Elderton Station also assists the
ambulance
service's response throughout its entire system. Ambulance personnel
will
continue to receive assistance from the Elderton Volunteer Fire
Department
and Immediate Response Personnel (IRP) 81. Citizens' has five other
stations
located strategically throughout its service area: Armagh, Blairsville,
Indiana (headquarters), Hillsdale and Plumville.
